Rosetta WG Update

Since our last update, version 6.3 has been released (in June) which is primarily focused on infrastructural changes. Release notes and documentation are available in the Ex Libris Knowledge Center, and Ex Libris are hosting two webinars at the end of July. Rosetta sub-working groups have until October to submit requests to be considered for inclusion in 7.1.

Our annual meeting, usually held in person, moved online this year due to COVID 19. We spent a dedicated 2.5-hour time slot together each day for 3 days in early June with additional sessions for different regions and follow up sub-working group sessions in the following days. We had almost twice as many attendees as when we run the meeting in person so while we missed the intensity of the 2.5 full days we usually gather (in the same time zone!), it was good to be able to accommodate those who don’t have the funds to join otherwise. At the close of the meeting, the coordinatorship was transitioned from Kirsty Smith (National Library of New Zealand) to Teresa Soleau (J. Paul Getty Trust). We also added Kimberly Tryka (National Geographic Society) to the working group committee as the ELUNA program coordinator for the Digital Initiatives track.

This year, our plan is to focus on two large pieces of work: 1.) rethinking the validation stack (the part of Rosetta that identifies file formats, extracts technical metadata, calculates file fixity, checks for viruses, and assesses risk) and 2.) working with Ex Libris to design and begin implementing a change to the data model to allow for structural Intellectual Entities (IEs) so we can represent hierarchical relationships in the system. We also hope to start a “newbies” group and create other ways for newer customers and new staff at existing sites to get involved in the community.
